Modeling Casting Call- The French Alpaca Women
Posted on 09 March 2016
I eagerly scanned the wonderful selection of women and men who auditioned to be a part of the Laura's Angels Charity Fashion Show. How do you go about this? What is it I'm looking for? How many do I choose?
I came to the realization that as a designer, I should be designing with someone in mind. Duh!! Anyway, who would wear what I create? What "look" am I going for? Who is that French Alpaca Gal?
In going over and over the photos, I discovered there was something that I was repeatedly drawn to, something my model choices all had in common. These gals all appeared confident and they were smiling! Some broadly, some Mona Lisa-like, but they all exuded that "je ne sais quoi". I loved that!!
So I realized that The French Alpaca Woman is not a particular size, nor a particular age or ethnicity. She just is willing to show up, put herself out for the world to see and say "This is ME!" and then smile!
This is not an easy thing for any women to do, especially in a swimsuit, much less standing in front of a concrete wall, holding a numbered sign like in a police line up!
Then it dawned on me that these models and I are the same. Like all artists and designers, you must be willing to put your work out in the public eye, willing to risk scrutiny, as well as praise.
Anyway, I was smitten with them! So, I invited four lovely gals: Alyssa, Brandy, Lauren, and Kyara, to participate in this journey with me.
